Gray wolves are native to North America, Europe and some areas of Asia. Although they are called gray wolves, their color can vary from black to pure white, depending on their environment. Timber wolves and arctic wolves belong to the same species. Wolf pups weigh about one pound at birth. There are usually four to seven pups in a litter. Their dens are often caves or hollow logs near a stream. Wolves have strong family attachments and mate for life. They nurture their young and choose a leader for their pack. Healthy wolves will not attack humans. When they hunt for food, they will often pick out and kill only the weakest and oldest in a herd, thus ensuring an ecological balance. 8" long, Wilderness Babies Collection. | |||||||||||
